March 12 is Equal Pay Day. For every dollar that a man earned last year, a woman had to work until today – over two extra months – to make that same dollar.

This persistent gender pay gap has been around my entire lifetime, and yours, too. Women working full-time, year-round are paid 82 to 84 cents (depending on the study) for every dollar paid to men. It’s worse for women of color. Black women make 69 cents and Native American women 59 cents for every dollar made by men.
