Leave a Legacy

with YWCA Cass Clay

With planned giving to YWCA Cass Clay, you ensure that future generations of women and families experiencing crisis will find safety, support, and hope through our programs and services.

To discuss the following options and more, contact YWCA Development Officer Jill DeVries at jdevries@ywcacassclay.org or call (701) 478-2250.

Donor-Advised Fund

A Donor-Advised Fund (DAF) allows generous donors to make charitable contributions and receive an immediate tax deduction. The funds are managed by a DAF custodian, and the donor can recommend grants to their preferred nonprofit organizations. Donors can contribute to the fund over time and recommend grants to charities at their discretion, providing flexibility in their giving strategy.

IRA Qualified Charitable Distributions

A Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) is a tax-efficient way for individuals age 70½ or older to make gifts directly from their Individual Retirement Account (IRA). QCDs can count toward satisfying an individual’s Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) for the year, which is the minimum amount that an individual must withdraw from their IRA each year once they reach age 73.

Stocks, Securities, & Mutual Funds

This is a great way to invest in YWCA, while also accessing substantial tax benefits. Giving appreciated assets like these helps you avoid paying capital gains taxes and can give you an income tax deduction for the full value of the gift if you’ve had the assets for more than one year.

Life Insurance

You can make a meaningful gift to YWCA through a life insurance policy.

Options include:

  • Designating YWCA as a recipient of the death benefit

  • Transferring ownership of an existing policy to YWCA

Endowments

Endowments are a source of funding that provide long-term security. Your gift to a qualified North Dakota endowment at YWCA Cass Clay is a charitable deduction for federal income tax purposes and qualifies for a 40% ND State Tax Credit if the gift is $5,000 or more. See example:

Gift Amount ND State Income Tax Credit Estimated Federal Tax Savings* "Cost" of Gift to the Donor
$5,000 -$2,000 -$960 $2,040
$10,000 -$4,000 -$1,920 $4,080
$25,000 -$10,000 -$4,800 $10,200
$50,000 -$20,000 -$9,600 $20,400

*Example based on 30% tax bracket. This example is provided for informational purposes only. Please consult your financial advisor.

Bequests Through Your Will

Bequests represent the most significant source of planned gifts for charitable organizations.

If you would like to make a significant gift to YWCA, but are concerned you may need the assets during your lifetime, a charitable bequest allows you to make a contribution while maintaining maximum flexibility.

These gifts can be funded with cash, marketable securities, mutual funds, real estate, life insurance, and retirement plans.

Charitable bequests and other estate gifts are 100% tax deductible, so your estate pays no estate or inheritance tax while providing ongoing support for women and families of YWCA.

A bequest through your will or revocable living trust allows you to give a specific amount, a particular asset, or portion of what remains after other distributions have been made.

If you have already included YWCA in your estate plans, please let us know so we may thank you and acknowledge your generosity and vision.
